Website speed matters. A slow site drives visitors away and hurts conversions. If you want a fast, high-performing site, start by picking a fast WordPress theme.
Below is a look at some of the fastest WordPress themes for 2025, what makes them quick, and why they’re a solid choice if you care about performance.
What Makes a WordPress Theme Fast
- Clean, minimal code.
- Simple design.
- Loads fast, stable, responsive.
- Works well on all devices.
- Here are 10 fast WordPress themes for 2025.

1. GeneratePress
GeneratePress Lightweight theme, under 10 KB. Clean code, fast loading.
Turn features on or off as needed
Mobile-friendly
SEO-friendly
Works with Elementor
Fast because there’s no extra code. With my tweaks, it’s even faster.

2. Astra
Astra is another popular and super-fast WordPress theme known for its speed and flexibility. Its lightweight build helps websites load in under half a second, even with a range of customization options.
– Features:
- Pre-built demo websites
- Supports WooCommerce for online stores
- Fully customizable and integrates seamlessly with popular page builders
Why it’s fast: Astra is designed with performance in mind, using no jQuery and keeping file sizes to a minimum, resulting in faster page load times.
I have reviewed one template / demo website they share on their official page. On purpose, I chose one without big images on the header, which certainly have killed the speed. The results are below average confirming again that developers are clueless speed-wise. It’s a sad story and a repetitive pattern in commercial themes, read below for more sad stories.

3. Neve
Neve is a fast, lightweight theme with clean code.
- AMP support for mobile
- Works with WooCommerce
- One-click demo import
It’s fast because it’s built for mobile first and keeps the code lean. I’d like to test the speed on one of its demo sites.

4. OceanWP
OceanWP is a multipurpose theme that is popular for its speed and flexibility. That said I find it particularly heavy and breakable. It comes with several pre-built templates and is highly customizable without compromising performance.
– Features:
- Built-in SEO features
- WooCommerce integration for online stores
- Responsive design for mobile and desktop
Why it’s fast (but not as fast as the themes above it): OceanWP loads quickly due to its lightweight design and optimized scripts, making it an excellent choice for high-traffic websites.
I reviewed the first demo website they offer on their official page and its speed is average to bad. I know that developers have no clue how to optimize for speed but if you’re going to showcase a website you might as well hire an expert to boost it to a decent speed level, am I wrong?

5. Schema
Schema is built for SEO and claims to be fast. In reality, it isn’t among the fastest themes.
- Rich snippets for SEO
- Lightweight, minimal bloat
- Supports custom widgets and shortcodes
It’s meant to load quickly by cutting out extras and focusing on essentials. Too bad their demo URL demo theme permalink doesn’t get picked up by speed tools, so we can’t see the real UX score.
—
6. Kadence
Kadence is a relatively new theme that quickly gained popularity for its fast performance and modern design. It offers a lightweight framework and flexibility to build virtually any type of website.

Why it’s fast: Kadence is built with a lightweight foundation, ensuring your site performs well even with heavy content or e-commerce features.
Based on a demo website’s performance I reviewed, it scores quite decent https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-startertemplatecloud-com-g55/fpc01urlt1?form_factor=mobile but it still needs a few tweaks to make it above 90 in the green zone. If any of its developers are reading this, I could give them a couple of hints on what to improve.

7. Sydney
Sydney

It’s fast because it keeps things simple and the code is optimized, even with heavy visuals. It’s fast because it keeps things simple and the code is optimized, even with heavy visuals.
This theme is almost there in almost there in speed rating. It lacks a couple of tweaks to getting a perfect rating though. Note that it was reviewed with almost no content. I estimate its speed will lose 10-20 speed points when images are uploaded.

8. Hestia
Hestia is a modern WordPress theme that’s optimized for speed and performance. It’s suitable for both small businesses and startups, offering a slick, professional look. It belongs in the Neve family and is the only one that scores high enough.

- WooCommerce-ready
- Multipurpose one-page theme
Why it’s fast: Hestia is optimized to minimize requests and reduce the time it takes for pages to load, ensuring a smooth user experience.
